Argyle, Arran and the Isles
With a vast mainland and home to 23 inhabited islands, the scenery and landscape in Argyll & the Isles will take your breath away. Arran which means "The Peaked Island" in Gaelic, is a small island off the West Coast of Scotland and lies in the Firth of Clyde. Arran is often referred to as 'Scotland in Miniature', and captures many aspects of the beauty of Scotland as a whole, with landscapes of towering granite peaks to peaceful sandy bays.

Laggan Harbour - Isle of Arran
On the coast of North East Arran where the ruins of a village transported to Canada during the land clearing still stand to an extent, it is difficult to believe that from this remote and tranquil spot coal used to be shipped, obtained from a thin local seam.
