Argyle, Arran and the Isles
With a vast mainland and home to 23 inhabited islands, the scenery and landscape in Argyll & the Isles will take your breath away. Arran which means "The Peaked Island" in Gaelic, is a small island off the West Coast of Scotland and lies in the Firth of Clyde. Arran is often referred to as 'Scotland in Miniature', and captures many aspects of the beauty of Scotland as a whole, with landscapes of towering granite peaks to peaceful sandy bays.
Kintyre was once described as Scotland's only "Main Island" as the peninsula would be an island, were it not for the short isthmus at Loch Tarbert.

Castle Stalker - Argyle
Built around 1540 by Duncan Stewart of Appin, it was gifted by him to James IV for use as a hunting lodge. In fact, its Gaelic name Caisteal Stalcair translates literally as 'Castle of the Hunter'. It sits at the mouth of Loch Laich (by Loch Linnhe) on a rocky islet known as the Rock of the Cormorants which is also the battle cry of the Stewarts of Appin. In the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Castle Stalker appeared as Castle Aaaargh.
