Lochaber and Ardnamurchan
The magnificent scenery of Lochaber is recognised for its outstanding and unique geological heritage. Explore mountains, lochs, rivers, coasts, cliffs and sandy beaches, look out for some wonderful wildlife, and learn how the landscape has been shaped over many millions of years.
The stunning Ardnamurchan peninsula which these days is often taken to include the neighbouring districts of Morvern, Ardgour, Moidart and Sunart is the most westerly part of the British Isles mainland and is quite literally the end of the road. This is a beautiful but unforgiving and remote corner of Scotland, with amazing seascapes at every turn. The harsh landscape is relieved by a whole series of superb sandy beaches.

Sallachan Point - Ardnamurchan
Although marked as a beacon on the OS map, this navigation marker does not have a light, but does make a very distinctive landmark on the flat shingle point of Sallachan Point which extends for just over half a mile at under 30 ft above sea level. The shingle promontory extends under water too, producing a large area of shallow water with seaweed particularly to the south of the point. The view, looking ESE across Sallachan Point, continues towards the Ballachulish Bridge and the entrance into Loch Leven. The mountains of Glen Coe lie in the far distance.
