Wester Ross is one of the most remote and beautiful parts of Britain - many say the world. Largely unpopulated and surrounded by high peaks and sea lochs, the area is recognised as one of Europe's last wildernesses. The eastern half - Easter Ross is generally flatter, and consists of towns, villages and farmland bordering the Moray Firth.

The Moray Firth is a roughly triangular inlet of the North Sea north and east of Inverness. It is the largest firth in Scotland, stretching from Duncansby Head in the north, and Fraserburgh in the east, to Inverness and the Beauty Firth in the west. The firth has about 500 miles of coastline, much of which is cliff.
